Syllabus:
This will give you an overview of the class expectations
film history syllabus
Film Responses:
For every full-length film we watch in class you will be required (unless I say otherwise) to write a 1-2 page response. I want to hear about your personal reactions to the film. What did you like about it? What didn’t you like? What would you have done differently? How does it compare to other films we’ve seen in class or other more modern things you’ve seen on your own? What point was the director trying to make? Is the director’s argument true? Etc. Don’t worry, I’m not grading on spelling, grammar, or penmanship. But don’t just tell me about the plot. Think about the film and write what you think.
Personal Film Viewings:
Each student must watch and write about at least 3 films from this list. The same guidelines apply as to your in-class film responses.

Presentations:
Each student will choose a film history related topic and do a presentation for the class. Become an expert on the subject. What were the important directors/films? What were the causes and effects? What technological advancements were involved? What was going on in history during the time? Make a powerpoint presentation for the class and show favorite clips from applicable films.
Here are a few suggestions, but feel free to choose something else that interests you:
